How is a “Smart” Thermostat Beneficial?

Traditional thermostats automatically regulate heating or cooling systems within the home to maintain a constant comfortable temperature. Just like “smart” or programmable cell phones allow for many more functions than older cell phones, smart thermostats are programmable and Wi-Fi enabled and allow for greater control over fluctuating home temperatures. This increases energy efficiency and reduces home heating and cooling costs. Benefits of Smart Thermostats Smart thermostats are based on “learning algorithms” which means the thermostat automatically learns from your schedule and behavior and adjusts the temperature accordingly. For example, using light and motion sensors the system can detect if you are away from home, switches the system to more energy efficient settings and thus saves on energy costs. The Smart thermostat then eventually learns this pattern and changes its heating or cooling schedule appropriately. It can also detect if air humidity is increasing or if an oven is turned on increasing room temperature and adjust its settings to save on energy expenditure. These types of thermostats also allow you to check on home temperature when away from home via a companion app. They also can send email alerts if home temperatures rise or lower significantly and they can analyze energy...
